GE Used to manufacture lot of things, from smallest till largest thing like from light bulb till jet engines, from fridge till train bogies. They used to manufacture almost everything not only this they used to run many Television shows which had million viewers. General electric was such a huge company of its time, that it had 220000 employees this many number of employees was more than many U.S. cities population.
The reason behind GE huge success was THEIR WAY OF FORMULATING GOAL SETTING or the General electric strategy. In 1940 GE had made this powerful technique. Many others used to follow this technique because they were aware of an amazing Outcome of those techniques these techniques actually have an unbelievable outcome. In 1960 General electric made compulsory for all his employees to follow these goal setting system those system were checked and approved by GE Companies manager and supervisors 4 times in a year. This thing has become the biggest reason for General electric grand success because its a fact that having proper goal in anyone’s life and business is the most important thing in life and if you take goal setting seriously and follow it properly, then no one can stop you to reach at the top.
It is said, that a person without goals in life is as similar to a ship who is in the middle of sea and has no idea about the destination, and ship without proper direction and destination will for sure sink. Our body can’t work without soul, similarly in order to achieve anything intelligent in our lives we people should have proper goals in our lives hence today i will share same general electric those goal setting system by following it even you’ll able to set proper goals in your life. Goal setting system is divided in 5 parts or the system follows the 5 fundamental properties which is named as smart goals. Here SMART is nothing but an acronym which represents those 5 properties. Here SMART first property or first initial stands for Specific. First point clears whether your goals are true specific goals or it’s just your dreams or just a wish example: Two friends were discussing about their future dreams and goals that how exactly they want their future while discussing, first friend ask the second friend about cars, like what car he want in his future which car he would love to buy, so for this second friend replied i want a big expensive sports car listening to this first friend again asked which sports car you want? so to this second friend replied i want Ferrari, so with this first friend again asked oh great which Ferrari? to this second friend said what do you mean which Ferrari? ferrari is ferrari i want red Ferrari so for this first friend said no there are many ferrari model, like Enzo, 458 Italia, Laferrari,f40 etc. so for this second friend says don’t bore me, i will take any ferrari. In this example, the second friend is not specific with his goals, hence as per smart goals technique and principles there are very less chances of him buying ferrari in future. Unfortunately many of us are like that second friend most of us are not specific about our goals, we just like to talk example i still remember the time when i went to networking event, they were telling us the same thing like most of the people dream. I want this that will buy big car big house mansion etc but we never specifically think about it like how exactly we will make our dream come true. How we convert our dream goals as reality, people feel that by doing normal job we can achieve great things but if you sit with a calculator and calculate then you will realise and understand that even if you work for 15 years on an average earning of 50 thousands per month, then too you will not have 1 cr after 15 years, then how you can think of buying expensive car and home. Hence smart goals first point teaches us to be specific about your goals, whichever goal you set be clear meaning instead of thinking that i want to earn lot of money. Think how much money you want to earn think about a specific amount, like i have to earn 10 lakh in a year by being specific. You can plan properly and will think what all things you should do to earn that much in a year with this your chances of achieving that goal will also increase.
If you are thinking to go with the flow and one day suddenly life will give you ferrari or make you millionaire this will only happen in your dream and this dream will never become reality in this real world. So always have a specific crystal clear goal as per smart goals system.
second initial or property of smart goals stands for measurable second thing which you must keep in mind while setting up your goal or to achieve your goals is that your goal must be measurable, so that you can measure your goal always example, suppose you want to lose your weight then at first as per first point. You need to be specific you shouldn’t think like i want to become thin but you should be specific like how much weight you want to lose specific like i want to lose 4 kg within a month then after being specific follow second point and measure your weight ones or twice in a month/week. You must measure your progress, like how close you have reached towards losing that 4 kg weight and further take action.
According to it the best thing about measuring is that you can see your success in front of you clearly which will help you to achieve your goal and also motivate you. Hence whichever goal you set, make it measurable and then measure it always to see how close you have reached to your specific goals because if you don’t measure your goal then there are high chances you will forget about that goal.
As per smart goals of General electric strategy second point always after settings specific goals measure your progress. smart goal third initial stands for Achievable. So this valuable point taught us to set a goals which are achievable and actionable. We must set goals which is possible to achieve in reality which we can achieve by taking specific actions many a times people set very unrealistic goals for themselves and achieving those goals become nearly impossible for them. Example suppose if i say that i want to become a millionaire, hence i will work day and night will do lot of hard work and will become millionaire by this week or within a week then setting such goal is really very stupid. I accept that becoming millionaire is possible, but becoming millionaire within a week isn’t possible. It is not possible in real world unless and until you don’t do something illegal or if you are too lucky hence you must set such goals which you can divide and can make it achievable by taking proper actions which you can achieve by taking proper actions as per earlier.
Example, if you want to lose 15 kg weight then instead of thinking that i will follow strict diet and will do lot of exercise and will lose within a week. Make it more realistic and actionable like every week i will reduce my 1 kg weight by following proper diet and exercise clear your actions and then complete your goals. This is the right and real way to achieve your goals to conclude this point.
SMART goal third point of General electric strategy tells you to ask yourself three questions first question is your goal realistic or not? as per weight loss. Example losing 1 kg weight in a week is realistic and you can do it by taking actions. Second question is control of completing your goal in your hand? example by controlling your eating habits and by physical exercise. You can control your weight so, yes it is in your hand and control. Third question do you have everything which is needed to complete your goal? example, like to lose weight do you have proper diet food, gym place, proper sports running shoes etc. If you have everything needed for your weight loss then yes your goal is achievable and you are following third point of smart goals.
4th initial or property of smart goals from General electric strategy is R Stands for Relevant this point asks you whatever actions you are taking is it taking you near your goals or not? means whatever things you are doing or planning to do is it helping you to reach near your goal. Is it relevant or not? it is helping you to move close to your main goal because many a times when we set goal at start we knew what exactly we have to do & what has to be done but as life disturbance responsibility comes. We start working and becomes busy this work keeps us busy and shows us as if we are working for our goals, but in reality many a times our work is not at all relevant to our goals,which usually doesn’t take us near our goals. Hence after setting our goals we must finish our goal work first you must give more priority to those work which takes us close to our main goal and to make this possible or to set priority. You can make use of two tenchniques first which is known as Efforts VS Value modle. You can see 4 parts in that graph which appears on screen ideally you must try to finish those part work which moves you towards your main goals work which takes less efforts and gives you maximum output and value.
This thing won’t be possible always but at start it can be the best option second point under first technique, here you should give priority to those work which take high efforts but also gives high value and returns for your goals. You can give third priority to those work who takes low efforts and also give low value and last part. You can avoid till end. This was the first technique second principle or technique which helps you to select best short goals which is our earlier 80/20 principle which is also known as peretoo principle. Here you need to figure out which 20 percent actions which gives you 80 percent value for your goals and try to finish those 20 percent work asap.
Last smart goal Initial of General electric strategy is T Stands For timeline this point asks you. How much time you will take to complete your goals in a better way have you set any deadline for your goals examples, in school and colleges we get assignments, and even after getting 1 month time limit to complete those assignments, still we finish them just 1 day before deadline or just on the day of deadline. Here through this example i am not saying how much lazy we are, but here i am saying that we complete our work at least before one day of deadline because we get deadlines this important thing teaches us that in order to complete any goal we people must give ourselves deadline many people fail to achieve their life goals because just like college and school we people don’t get deadline just like school college we don’t have anyone to give us punishment if we don’t complete our goals . Here you need to understand that if you want to achieve anything huge in life then you need to become your own teacher, you need to give yourself punishment. If you fail to finish goal you must set deadline and had to punish yourself. If not complete goal before deadline.
